How to read our scores:Sifter’s Design Risk and Joy scores are informational assessments and opinions, generated from publicly available data and a documented model. They are not statements of fact about any company, and may be incomplete or out of date. Use them as one input, not a verdict.

What Sifter is
Sifter is a free, informational tool that analyses how games are monetised and designed, to help you make mindful choices. It is provided for personal, non-commercial use.
Scores are opinion, not fact
Our scores, labels (such as “Red Flag”), and pattern detections are automated assessments based on public information and a scoring model that is explained on our methodology page. They reflect our good-faith opinion, not a definitive or authoritative judgement, and games change over time. Nothing here is professional, financial, or legal advice. We make no guarantee that any score is accurate, complete, or current.
No affiliation; trademarks
Sifter is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Valve Corporation, Steam, or any game developer or publisher. “Steam” and all game names, logos, and cover art are the property of their respective owners and are used for identification and commentary only.
Steam data & your key
Data is retrieved from Valve’s services and your use of it is subject to Valve’s applicable terms. If you supply your own Steam Web API key, you are responsible for keeping it within Steam’s terms of use.
Acceptable use
Please use Sifter for personal, lawful purposes. Don’t attempt to disrupt or reverse-engineer the service, overload or abuse our Steam proxy, scrape it at scale, or use it to harass others or violate anyone’s rights.
Intellectual property & corrections
Sifter’s own text, scoring model, and design are ours. Game names, artwork, and trademarks belong to their respective owners and appear here for identification and commentary only. If you represent a game and believe a score or description is inaccurate or infringes your rights, email us — we review every good-faith request and correct genuine errors promptly.
No warranty & limitation of liability
Sifter is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or reliance on, the service or its scores.
Changes to the service
Sifter is offered free of charge and may be changed, paused, or discontinued at any time without notice.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Nebraska, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
Severability & entire agreement
If any part of these terms is held unenforceable, the remainder stays in effect. Together with the Privacy Policy, these terms are the entire agreement between you and Sifter.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms; the “last updated” date above will change when we do.
